Get money advice – on the NHS

NHS Warrington is offering advice on tackling money stress.
Health experts are pointing out that financial worries can lead to health problems – and that advice is on hand to deal with both.
Caroline Jenkins, NHS Warrington health improvement project co-ordinator for mental health, said: “Money worries affect many people from all walks of life. A lot of us feel under pressure to spend more than we can afford.
“In today’s world, unemployment, redundancies, job insecurity and the rising cost of household bills are real concerns for many.”
A recent survey found that 44 per cent of reported debt problems led to physical or stress related ill health – and stress itself can make it harder to cope with managing money.
So anyone experiencing problems with money or debt should seek advice which could resolve both the money problems and the stress they cause.
Symptoms of stress include shortness of breath, chest pain, upset stomach, excessive sweating, tiredness, tingling in the hands and toes, headaches, high blood pressure or dizziness, muscle pain and tension, sleep problems and weight loss or gain.
NHS Warrington suggest a number of organisations that can give free, independent advice on managing debt, increasing income and dealing with the stress that money problems can cause.
