Boy trapped in store escalator

A QUICK-thinking Warrington shop worker came to the rescue when a 6-year-old boy got his foot trapped in an escalator at the weekend.
The young boy’s welly became stuck as he and his mum came down the escalator at Sports Direct in Golden Square shopping centre on Saturday morning at about 11.30am.
Despite desperate attempts by his mum to pull his boot out, by the time they reached the bottom, his left leg was firmly lodged in a two inch gap between the steps which was starting to close.
She called for help to shoppers and a quick thinking shop worker pressed the emergency stop button just before they reached the bottom.
By the time fire crews arrived to help, the group had managed to cut the boys boot off and release him. A Warrington Firefighter who attended the incident said: “This is the first time I’ve seen anything like this involving an escalator so I think it is unusual.
“It’s a good job the shop worker was so quick to react. Escalators are hydraulic machinery and it’s thanks to her that this wasn’t a much more serious accident.”
The escalator was closed and examined by engineers but is now re-open.
