WARRINGTON Town FC are bidding to get their Cantilever Park pitch ready
in time for Saturday’s scheduled league clash with FC Halifax – the
club’s biggest league fixture of the season.
Last season’s fixture, which also took place in January, attracted a record-breaking Unibond League crowd at Warrington of nearly 500, and with both club’s competing for a place in the play-offs, club officials had been hoping for another bumper crowd.
With Warrington not having been in action since December 12 manager Joey Dunn is anxious to get his side back in action and to ensure they stay match fit he took the squad to Trafford Centre Velodrome at the weekend for indoor training.
Meanwhile the club has organised working parties at the ground each evening from 6pm today (Tuesday) in a bid to clear the snow and hope a thaw will make the pitch playable at the weekend.
The club is already facing a massive fixture backlog and faces a game every three-four days for much of the season.
Dunn now has a fully fit squad with all players recovering from bumps and bruises during the enforced lay-off.
Warrington suffered a 4-1 defeat at The Shay at the start of the season and Dunn is eager to make up for the poor start, which saw Town lose their opening three league games.
“We didn’t deserve to lose 4-1 and I want to show Halifax we are a lot better than that. If we can beat them at our place it will be a big boost for our play-off hopes.”

we may be, but we’ll never know if we don’t try
Well said Rob Wood! Whatever we do this week will also help for the following weeks clash with the mighty Welsh Dragons from Colwyn Bay!
….and have you seen the snow band heading for North Wales as I type??? I’d stay in and have a nice cup of hot chocolate…. far more satisfying!
Baz, its Colwyn Bay at home
Ahhh that will be OK then I guess…. unless their team get snowed in of course!!
