Electrical fault triggers house blaze

FIRE crews battled through thick snow to reach a blazing house at Warrington last night.
The blaze was at a house in Queens Avenue, Glazebury and was caused by an electrical fault in the kitchen.
Three fire appliances from Birchwood and Warrington attended the incident, shortly at 8pm after reports that someone could be trapped inside the smoke-filled house.
In fact, the family were outside clearing snow from their drive when the fire broke out and only became aware of it on hearing a smoke alarm sounding when they returned inside.
There was extensive fire damage in the kitchen and open plan living room, and smoke damage throughout the rest of the property.
Crews used a hosereel jet and wore breathing apparatus to tackle the outbreak.
A Fire Service spokesman said: “The road conditions were horrendous and I would like to pay tribute to the firefighters who drove the fire engines.”
