Motorists warned park at your own risk

THE borough council sign says it all: “Users of this car park do so at their own risk.”
And the council is not kidding. For the car park at the Shaw Street Recreation Ground, Culcheth, looks more like a lake during the winter months.
At times more than half the car park is unusable because of deep pools of dirty water and a rutted and muddy surface.
Residents have been complaining for some time because there is a demand for parking spaces – particularly at weekends when soccer and rugby matches are being played at Shaw Street.
Coun Sue Bland, chairman of Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council, said: “We have received a number of complaints and we have taken the matter up with the borough council. But they say they haven’t the money to resurface the car park but can fill in potholes with second hand scree left over from other projects.”
A borough council spokeswoman said: “We are aware that this site has drainage issues which are a seasonal problem and require significant investment.
” We are able to carry out repairs to alleviate any considerable flooding such as filling in pot holes.”

  1. WELCOME to Warrington, a good place to live!!!!!!! Or that is the opinion of some on the Forum.

The town and the surrounding villages has been neglected over the last couple of decades in favour of box ticking schemes that allegedly make the area a wonderful place. The important things such as the above, traffic congestion and a multitude of other problems don’t matter as long as they can build skittles, have a “Big Wheel” in the depths of winter and get “Green Flags” and awards.

Just walk up Bridge St. drive down Winwick St, try to get through Stockton Heath. and you will see the problems.

For years, the council (of whichever party) have spent their time squabbling and arguing and scoring cheap points rather than look after the interests of the residents. When are they going to wake up and work together?

I am still at a loss as to how the council( and the rate payer) allegedly, has got us into over £17 million in the red when for the last 6 or 7 years, services have been reduced?

  2. It’s a great that Culcheth has the recreational ground. It’s used by local kids soccer clubs for league matches as well as by many other groups etc….. The council should sort the appauling car park conditions out IMMEDIATELY before clubs start going elsewhere !

  3. Doesn’t matter if it’s north south east or west….. it’s a recreational ground used by people from all over the place (even from outside the Warrington). So unless the borough council want people from further afield to think that this is the normal standard of facilities in Warrington they should sort it out as quickly as possible 🙂

  4. it’s not just the north, you want to see Victoria park Carpark! thousands spent on improving the play area and hoping to bring athletes from all over the world to train for 2012 and your car WILL disappear in a pothole!!!!! GET IT SORTED! and also agree with being in the red.

  5. The car park is a disgrace ,we keep getting told that the council has nt got a pot to p*** in (tell my bank balance after ive been mugged of the community tax charge) but the local council do have or we be finding £30000 pound to put drainage on the village green ,great investment the green used once in the year or invest on Shaw street that is used at some point nearly every day off the year by Culcheth Eagles and local football teams .
