What's happened to my street?

“WHAT has happened to my street?” a local resident asked Stockton Heath Parish Council.
Patrick Mullee (pictured) listed a catalogue of incidents that had occurred near his home in Cawdor Street.
“I have had a set of number plates stolen from my van, and the magnetic vinyl signs stolen and used in a robbery in Rainford. I had to make a statement to the CID in St Helens,” he said.
Eight weeks ago, at about 2am on a Sunday there was a collision outside his house when a drink driver hit three vehicles and his van.
“At 2am all the residents were out in their pyjamas wondering what was going on.”
There had also been several arrests related to drugs.
Four weeks ago, near to the street, he saw four men messing about near a car. He reported the incident to two officers in a nearby police car who said the situation was being dealt with.
Then there was a major incident with “police all over the place,” police dogs, an armed response unit and a car stolen from York “dumped” outside his house.
“Why is this all happening in this corner of Stockton Heath?” he asked.
PCSO Peter Crellin said in one of the incidents a suspicious member of the public saw men getting out of a white van and into a car and reported the matter to police.
Two officers had waited for the men to come back.
“Two men were arrested and it was all down to a vigilant member of the public.”
Mr Mullee said: “Am I getting paranoid? Why is this happening in my street?”
PCSO Crellin said intelligence was coming in from all areas of the town, and a lot of warrants were being issued.

  1. So crime in the area is not actually getting better then as the reports so often tell us.

For so much to happen in one street makes you wonder how much is actually happening in the other streets too which may/may not be being reported or noticed depending on the vigilance of the public and their decision to actually report something !?!?

It may be easier of people could actually just ring the local police stations to alert them of a situation rather than to be diverted to the central ‘out of the area’ call centre.

At the end of the day though if people don’t bother reporting things (which many don’t) then the police can not build up a true picture of obvious problem areas which need to be addressed.
