Wait and see on postal deliveries

IT’S a matter of “wait and see” for postal deliveries in Lymm, following the final closure of the sorting office in Bridgewater Street in January.
The closure went ahead despite pleas from the parish council, postal staff and local residents for it to be kept open.
But the general view is that it is too soon to say whether there have been any deterioration in postal deliveries.
Parish councillors will be keeping a close watch on the situation and any developments will be reported at future meetings.
Coun Neville Woodyatt said deliveries did seem to be later in the first week after the closure – sometimes as late as 2pm.
But the following week mail was arriving around 9am and by the third week was arriving about 11am – which was similar to before the closure.
But he said: “I think it is too soon to come to any conclusion. We will have to wait and see.”
Lymm’s “posties” – most of who live in the village – are now based in Altrincham, which means they have to travel there to bring the mail back to Lymm.
Opponents of the sorting office closure argued that the changes could result in later deliveries and would also result in the Royal Mail “carbon footprint” getting bigger because of the increased number of journeys between Lymm and Altrincham.
