Pupils choose name for new centre

A NEW children’s centre at Warrington is to be named “Sunshine Children’s Centre” – a name chosen from a number put forward by members of the school councils at four primary schools.
The new centre will serve the Fairfield and Howley area and the name was chosen following discussions with pupils from St Ann’s, Beamont, Oakwood and St Benedict’s primary schools.
The name ‘Sunshine Children’s Centre’ by Jake Wordsworth and a logo designed by Emily Dimeloe, both from Beamont primary school, were eventually chosen from the shortlisted submissions.
Coun Sheila Woodyatt, the council’s executive member for children’s services said: “The children have worked very hard to select the name and logo for the new centre and I know the schools are really very proud of their achievements, as am I.
“We want the community to have a real sense of ownership with the centre which is primarily for young children and their families in the local area.”
The centre on O’Leary Street is currently undergoing major conversion from two former classrooms and is due to open its doors next month. Health checks and sessions for babies will be available alongside a Citizens Advice Bureau.
The Fairfield and Howley centre is a Sure Start children’s centre, the aim of which is to provide integrated education, care, family support and health services.
