Power station workers walk out

ABOUT 300 workers employed by contractors at the Fiddlers Ferry Power Station, near Warrington have walked out in support of colleagues protesting about the use of foreign labour at the Lindsey Oil Refinery on Humberside.
They claimed the length of their stoppage was “indefinite.”
Thermal insulation engineers, electricians, pipe fitters, welders, steel erectors and others were involved in the protest.
A spokesman for the men said they had not taken the action lightly.
“We firmly believe that we need to take a stand against the underhand tactics being used by companies and, it would seem, our own government to undermine and break existing agreements.
“This dispute is not just about foreign workers – it is about the breaking of terms and conditions of a national agreement by companies in employing foreign labour at lesser wages than those which they have previously agreed to.”

  1. I hope that they realize that British companies and British workers abroad, will now probably be punished in retaliation. Protectionism does not work.
