Nursery must demolish building

A HORTICULTURIST will have to remove a timber building, hardstanding and metal containers from his land after losing a lengthy planning battle.
Caddicks Clematis Nursery, in Lymm Road, Thelwall has lost an appeal against the refusal by Warrington planners to grant a retrospective planning application.
The nursery will also have to restore the land involved to grass.
Caddicks went ahead with development of the site despite being advised by the council not to proceed.
They originally described the building as a visitor centre, with lecture room, office, souvenir shop and toilets.
But later they withdrew this scheme and described the building as a first phase of a nursery expansion and improvement.
The inspector who heard the appeal has ruled that the building is not required for horticultural use and so is not warranted in the Green Belt.
The raised area of hardstanding harms the openness of the Green Belt, according to the inspector.
The nursery has been given a 60-day period to comply with an enforcement notice issued by the council.
