£65,000 cash boost for police

POLICE services in Warrington and throughout the county will benefit from a £65,000 cash boost to Cheshire Constabulary.
Money comes from assets recovered from the county’s criminals.
The windfall, announced by Home Office Minister Alan Campbell, covers the period July to September last year and represents one sixth of the total amount seized.
It is part of a total of £5.44 million going to police forces in England and Wales, compared with £3.71million paid out in the same quarter last year.
Last year Cheshire Constabulary invested in more staff to track and seize assets on behalf of the public from those people who profit from crime in Warrington and throughout the county.
Police, using the Proceeds of Crime Act legislation, are sending a clear message to criminals that they will actively pursue the assets of criminals who profit from crime. Seizing assets puts an end to offenders’ ideas that they can use criminal gains to fund their future lifestyle.
Detective Inspector Giles Orton, head of Cheshire’s Asset Recovery team, said: “Cheshire Police is taking money from criminals, which makes crime much less profitable for those who make a living from crime.
“This money is then ploughed straight back into the force, guaranteeing reinvestment into the local community and local policing, and enhancing public reassurance and confidence. Taking the criminals ill-gained profit makes it plain to anyone thinking about embarking on a life of crime that crime really doesn’t pay.”
