A CAR careered onto the wrong side of the road and collided with another car during a high speed chase with police, a court was told at Warrington.
The Jaguar was being driven by a banned driver, Warrington Crown Court was told.
Michael Osbourne, 27, from Lilford Avenue, Bewsey, was a passenger in the car when it careered into a Ford Fiesta on the other side of the road at around 50 miles per hour.
He pleaded guilty to allowing himself to be carried in relation to aggravated vehicle taking and was given a six month community order, banned from driving for 12 months and made subject of a six-month drug rehabilitation order.
The court heard how Osbourne, along with another man, Darren Palin, had been instructed to pick up a friend’s car from a garage and return it to their home address.
Roger Green, prosecuting, said Osbourne was a passenger in the car as it drove through Runcorn at high speeds and failed to stop when signalled to do by a chasing police car.
Daniel Dennis, defending, said that Osbourne and Palin had been coerced into letting another man, who they referred to as “Scot”, drive the car.
Osbourne told “Scot” to stop the car when the police began their chase, but he refused, saying he was banned from driving.
Judge Stephen Clarke told the defendant: “It is clear you were put under pressure to let someone else drive the vehicle. Having taken into account the basis of plea in this case, the court is able to take a different view of this matter.
Palin has already been dealt with by the court
