No shortage of volunteers

IT is pleasing to be able to report that there is, apparently, no shortage of volunteers to become trustees of Appleton’s splendid Millennium Green.
Leaflets distributed around the Cobbs Estate have resulted in a number of people coming forward and the existing trustees will shortly be interviewing them to decide which should be appointed.
The problem is that the four existing trustees have been in office since the green was created to mark the year 2000 and not all wish to continue. Difficulty was being experienced in finding replacements and a suggestion had been made that Appleton Parish Council could take over responsibility for management of the green.
Trustee Julie Kueres has now told the council that questionnaires distributed on the Cobbs Estate have brought forward a number of volunteers and also indicate that the majority of local residents would prefer the green to remain in the hands of trustees rather than be handed over to the parish council.
This would seem to be an ideal outcome to what at first appeared to be a serious problem. The Millennium Green has been managed by the trustees since its inception and, by common consent, is a wonderful asset for the parish – particularly the Cobbs area.
Any new trustees appointed will, of course, have a hard act to follow so it is important that committed people are chosen. The more candidates there are the better and it is not too late for others to apply. Anyone interested should contact the chairman of the trustees, Keith Greenwood, on 01925 265297.
