Unwanted jewellery can help cancer charity

0

CANCER charity Marie Curie is calling on the people of Warrington to donate their unwanted and broken jewellery to raise money for the cause.
Donations of any unwanted or damaged gold, silver or costume jewellery and watches are needed and items such as odd earrings, snapped chains, and broken watches will be recycled, with Marie Curie Cancer Care benefiting from a share of the proceeds. The scheme has been launched as part of the 60th anniversary of the charity which was first formed thanks to the donation of a diamond ring that raised £75 at auction – approximately £5,762 in today’s money. Since then Marie Curie has grown to become one of the UK’s largest charities, employing more than 2,700 nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals to care for around 27,000 terminally ill patients in the community and in its 10 hospices per year. The scheme runs from May to June and items can be donated at any Laura Ashley store. For more information about the initiative, visit www.mariecurie.org.uk
