A TRAINED boxer lost his temper and struck a 10-year-old boy in the face after the youngster swore.
The boy suffered serious bruising to his face and body which was subsequently noticed at school, Warrington Crown Court was told.
Michael Woods, 45, of Marron Avenue, Longford, Warrington admitted assault and was given an 18-month community and supervision order and ordered to attend an anger management course.
David Jones, prosecuting, said the boy was a passenger in Woods’ car when he swore at another passenger. Woods lost his temper, stopped the car and hit the boy with his open palms.
Mr Jones said had Woods used his fist the injuries would have been far more severe.
The boy was scared at the time because he knew Woods had “fast hands” as a result of his boxing training.”
David Rose, defending, said Woods had expressed remorse since the incident and the assault was not premeditated – just a case of him losing his temper.
Judge Nicholas Woodward told Woods: “I recognise that you were subjected to some difficulties inside a car with children playing up, but how you behaved was unacceptable and completely wrong.”
