Murder police still
hunting local man

by David Skentelbery

POLICE are still hunting a Warrington man wanted in connection with a horrific murder for which two other men have already received life jail sentences.
They have appealed to Christopher More, aged 26, from Lymm to give himself up.
A spokesman said: “He can run but he cannot hide. He can either give himself up or spend the rest of his life looking over his shoulder.”
More, son of wealthy businessman Christopher More Snr, 61 and his wife, Eileen, 51, who live in a ?3 million farmhouse at Lymm, is known to have flown toSpain shortly after the murder of drug dealer Brian Waters at Tabley, near Knutsford, some two years ago.
A ?10,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the conviction of people wanted in connection with the murder.
The police spokesman said: “We do know that within 36 hours of the murder, Christopher More flew out to Spain and was staying in the Marbella area. We are looking for information that will help us trace Mr More so that he can be questioned in relation to the murder.”
Anyone with information can telephone 01244 613550 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Two men have been given life sentences at Chester Crown Court for the murder.
James Raven, 44, of Bolton – a cousin of Christopher More jnr – and John Wilson, 54, of Glossop, were found guilty of murder and two counts of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm. A 30-year-old man was cleared and the jury failed to reach a verdict on a 27-year-old man who now faces a retrial.
The court heard how Mr Waters has tortured and killed at a farm at Tabley.
His grown up son and daughter were tied up and forced to watch as he was beaten, whipped, burned and attacked with an industrial staple gun. He was also hung upside down and sexually assaulted with an iron bar, causing fatal internal injuries.
Mr Justice Poole, recommending that the two convicted men serve a minimum of 24 years, said: “These crimes were exceptionally sadistic. The violence used was both gratuitous and extreme.”

Purge on “nuisance”
bikers in parks

by Terry Johnson

PLAIN-clothes police on bikes have mounted a purge on speeding go-karters and riders of motorised scooters in three Warrington parks.
Community action teams fear that “nuisance riders” travelling at up to 30mph along footpaths could cause serious injury to park users.
Bobbies on bikes and out of uniform have been drafted into Sankey Valley Park, Bennets Recreation Ground and Orford Park.
Community Support Officers are also involved in the operation.
They are assessing the situation before highly visible patrols move in to curb the nuisance.
Police spokeswoman Kath Harkin, said: “We are not out to spoil people’s fun – we just want to highlight the danger that high-speed bikers and scooter-riders pose.
“We want people to feel they can use the parkways without fear of being hit by these bikes and scooters”.
Bikers could have their machines confiscated by police if they fail to respond to the plea to keep the parks safe.

Hospital improvements
praised by MP

by John Hendon

THE new ?5.4 million improvements to the accident and emergency services at Warrington Hospital, have been praised by Helen Southworth, MP for Warrington South.
She visited the hospital to check on progress of the scheme, phase three of which has just been completed and services transferred to the new area.
Mrs Southworth said: “I am delighted to see how much our local accident and emergency service has improved. The new building is a far cry from the old dilapidated and cramped A & E.
“The hospital staff have been fantastic improving the clinical service while the building work was happening, and opening up part of the new building very quickly so patients can benefit,” she added.
She praised the staff for their determination and commitment in maintaining excellent services during the building work.
“I worked very hard with the hospital team to get the ?5.4 million needed for the new facility, and I am delighted that we are three-quarters of the way there,” the MP said.
“The latest part of the project sees the opening of a chest pain assessment area, clinical decisions unit, mental health facility and a separate women’s health suite,” she added.
Mrs Southworth said the benefits include swift assessment, as there will be a dedicated chest pain area with specialist nursing staff. Patients in this category will be seen immediately and treated until a definitive diagnosis is made.
The MP also praised the new clinical decisions unit that will allow patients who need to be observed for a short period of time to be cared for in a separate, quieter environment.
