man, 62, is arrested

by David Skentelbery

A 62-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a woman’s body at a house at Warrington.
He has been in hospital ever since being found seriously injured at the house in Budworth Avenue, Latchford on Tuesday last week.
Police said he would be remaining in hospital for some days yet, under police guard.

They did not reveal the man’s identity, but he is understood to be the partner of Nicola Briggs, 33, the mother of one who was found dead at the house with stab injuries.
He is believed to have been found with injuries to his wrist and his neck, consistent with having been hanging.
A post mortem examination has shown the woman’s death was caused by a “major trauma.” A knife was found in the house.
From the outset, police have said they were not looking for any other suspect.
The man had lived with Mrs Briggs for at least five years, according to friends.
Mrs Briggs had two part time jobs, as a barmaid at Warrington Town Football Club at Cantilever Park and at a corner shop in Lymm.

“Oppressive” home
extension rejected

by John Hendon

A HOUSEHOLDER has lost an appeal against Warrington Borough Council’s decision to refuse him planning consent for a first floor extension at his home in Station Road, Penketh.
The borough’s development control committee threw out the proposal in August last year after planning officers described it as “oppressive and unattractive” and out of scale with existing buildings.
Now a planning inspector has ruled that the development would be “conspicuously out of proportion” and out of character with existing Edwardian and more recently erected properties.
A council spokesman said: “The council’s decision has been vindicated”
