Cricket club research history of ground

0

MEMBERS of Appleton Cricket Club are researching the history of their Lyons Lane ground and are seeking the help of older residents.
The club – which currently plays in the Cheshire Cricket Alliance – was formed in 1976 from an amalgamation of Radiation CC, who had played at Lyons Lane since the early 1950s, and Winwick CC.
Prior to that, the use of the ground is somewhat obscure and the club would welcome any information on its use, either for cricket or for any other purpose.
It is believed it could have been used by the former Stockton Heath CC from before the First World War up to 1939, when the Second World War ended most local cricket.
It is believed it may have been used by the military during the Second World War and also by Warrington Corporation Transport Department up to the early 1950s.
Anyone who can help is asked to contact club member Graham Whibley on 01925 263712
