Last chance to oppose 20mph limits

10

ANYONE who wishes to object or make any other representation on the introduction of 20mph speed limits in residential roads across Warrington has until February 3 to do so.
The borough council plans to introduce the restriction on residential roads in three areas initially – the town centre, Great Sankey and the Poplars area at Orford.
This follows a pilot scheme which ran between February 2009 and August last year which resulted in a reduction in vehicle speeds and a decrease in the number of road accidents.
Council chiefs say 20mph limits reduce the frequency and severity of collisions, promote road safety for all road users, particularly pedestrians and cyclists by reducing traffic speeds.
This will result in an improvement in the quality of life for local residents, the council believes.
But many local residents have expressed opposition to the proposals which, they claim, will be impractical.
Details of the proposals, including a complete list of the roads affected, can be seen at the council’s legal services department at Quattro Building, New Town House, Buttermarket Street, Warrington during usual office hours Monday to Friday.
All representations, including objections, must be made to Rebecca Lee of Legal Services at the Quattro Building by February 3.

  1. OK so are the proposals and list of affected roads available on-line !!! Most people work so can’t simply pop down to the Quattro building durning usual office hours to have a look. Can objections be submitted online too !?!?? I sincerely hope so and if not then it would appear that the council do not want objections or representations.

  2. DEAR WBC…. I can’t find any information or the list of ALL PROPOSED ROADS on your stupidly unhelpful website or anywhere else for that matter.. MAYBE YOU WOULD LIKE TO PUT IT ON YOUR HOME PAGE ASAP !!!!

  3. Ignore the madness that is school time in Gt Sankey, Police etc dont want to know. If we behaved elsewhere on the roads like they do every day we would be subject to fines and points. 35 years plus no action, causing hazzards and agravation for locals, Never seen an accident on any of the targeted 20 mph roads. But what an opportunity to collect much needed funds. Ridiculous!!

  4. Ok 20 MPH -So that’s going to be enforced is it – I think not – everyday on Cromwell Ave people speed and use the bus lane – yet no enforcement – its a joke if you want a dog to bite make sure it has teeth.

  5. Wiseone….. the buses do not use the bus lane on Cromwell Avenue. If you want jokes; it is a joke that the bus lane is there in the first place….. and the Police have in the past booked motorists for using it outside the peace ranch, while the buses use the normal roads to get themselves in the right lane to get into town!

  6. Can’t believe were going to be crawling around at twenty miles per hour, i live on Poplars Ave and its a main road, no one will be comfortable going at 20mph, would the money spent on this crack pot scheme not be better spent on filling all the pot holes from the bad winter weve had, which in my opinion are a greater danger than the odd speeding driver, if this scheme is not heavily policed it will be ignored, ive tried driving at 20 just to see how it feels and the abuse you get from other motorist is awful.
