Town's tremendous tourism potential

WARRINGTON’S “tremendous potential” for boosting the North West’s visitor economy has been recognised by tourism group Visit Chester and Cheshire.
The group held a board meeting in the town – at Warrington Wolves’ Halliwell Jones Stadium.
The meeting was hosted by Wolves’ chief executive Andy Gatcliffe, the latest private sector representative to join the VCC board.
It was also attended by Steven Broomhead, chief executive of the North West Development Agency and deputy chairman of Wolves.
VCC chairman Mike Cooksley welcomed the opportunity for the board to meet in Warrington.
He said: “There’s no doubting the borough’s role in growing the sub region’s visitor economy, and we are very impressed with the ideas and longer term vision that is being developed.
“There’s tremendous potential here, particularly in building the area’s business tourism offer, for which it has already established a strong reputation throughout the UK.
“We were delighted to have Steven Broomhead’s input into a number of important emerging issues and that will help us in ensuring that the visitor economy maximizes its potential.”
Mr Gatcliffe commented: “Warrington Wolves together with the borough-wide business community have an extremely important role to undertake in assisting the growth of the visitor economy within the region.”

  1. Looks like they all had a jolly good time but you have to wonder what goes on in their minds if they think Warrington has tremendous tourism potential. I doubt any of these people would ever consider coming to Warrington for a holiday!

  2. I was just wondering that myself, mind boggling really, reading this hads actually put me ill at ease, these people are very well paid and have responsible positions, apart from the stadium where exactly did they visit? I knwo we do have some lovely places on the out skirts of Warrington, nice walks etc but I wouldn’t have thought they were tourist attractions??? Most places have nice area’s especially when you get away from the inner town or city , maybe they visited Bridge Street at mid night ;o)

  3. I think what they mean is Warrington is a great base for people visiting the North West.

It is ideally located close to all the major tourist attractions in the North West.

Warrington also has places of interest while people are using it as a base to visit Liverpool, Manchester, North Wales, Blackpool, Chester e.t.c

  4. That’ll be what they meant then, maybe mine and their definition of tourist is different. Visitors I “can” see visiting Warrington for those very reasons but someone coming as a tourist to Warrington alone I “can’t” see but maybe that’s just me…………..
