DEMOLITION of the former Mr Smith’s Club building at Warrington has been completed and roads have been re-opened.

And a spokesperson for the building’s owners – the Pervaiz Naviede Family Trust – said they were currently liaising with all involved parties over the future of the site.
In a statement, the spokesperson said: “We are greatly saddened to announce that the decision was reached with Warrington Council to demolish the remains of the iconic Mr Smith’s building.
“Unfortunately, due to extensive damage caused by the recent fire, the site is unsafe and beyond salvage.
“We are very disappointed with this situation as plans were in place and reaching finalisation to transform the building into a new centre for Warrington Youth Club. We are currently liaising with all involved parties to discuss the next steps for the site.”
Traffic hold-ups were still causing chaos in the town centre as demolition crews continued razing the building to the ground. But now Wilson Patten Street is open in both directions.
Fire crews have had to carry out damping down operations as a result of “hot spots” flaring up on occasions, leading to a haze of smoke over the Bridge Foot area.
Seven teenagers, five boys and two girls were arrested in connection with the incident but have been released on bail.
