WORK has started on a £100,000 refurbishment of the interior of All Saints Church, Thelwall.
It will include opening up the social area at the back of the church for community groups and meetings, a complete refurbishment of the lights, new carpeting and additional chairs.
Churchwarden Mike Horne said the work has been largely funded through the generosity of various grant funders, including WREN, as well as donations from he community.
Seven years of thought and planning had gone into the scheme and the work should be completed by the end of May.
All Saints Church dates from 1843, although it was built on the site of an earlier chapel believed to date from before 1663.
The church was built because the chapel held only 80 people and the local population had grown to more than 300.
It was enlarged again in 1856 and in 1890 a new north aisle was added.
