Leisure trust wins £1,000 grant

LIVEWIRE Warrington has secured a £100,000 grant from Sporta, the governing body for leisure trusts, to implement a project aimed at making its services more accessible and to get more people with a disability active.
They plan to use the funding to support a number of service improvements including additional memberships, extra fitness classes and staff awareness on how people with disabilities can access various exercise activities. This in turn will make it easier for people across the town that require additional support to become more active.
Those with a disability wishing to sign up for a membership will be entitled to a free three month LiveWire membership, six new activities at LiveWire sites across Warrington and four LiveWire leisure facilities receiving the official Inclusive Fitness Mark and quality accreditation for service provision.
Members of staff will be working with a number of agencies in the town to inspire members of the public with disabilities to take up physical activity. A workshop will be hosted on Tuesday March 24 at Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub to consult with various people on the quality of current provision and seek their views on what additional activity they would like to see. This is an open invitation to charities, clubs and individuals across the town to shape what that provision looks like.
LiveWire’s James Birdsey, said: “We’re delighted to have been awarded this funding to be able to do more to support people with disabilities to be more active. This supports our vision to make Warrington residents the most active in the North West by 2016. We want people with disabilities to inform what we provide, and we would welcome their attendance and views at the workshop on the 24th of March”
