A 12-week food and fitness programme called YClub has been launched by Your Housing Group.
Based at the recently reopened Birchwood Youth Centre on Delenty Drive, the Tuesday evening activities for 13-18 year olds will run from 6pm – 8pm.
Your Housing Group’s Community Projects Manager, Andrew Edwards said: “This is a great opportunity for local youngsters to get together once a week, have fun, get fit and enjoy a meal. The Birchwood Youth Centre is a great facility but currently under-utilised. We hope that projects like this will breathe new life into it and bring local young people in the community together in a safe and sociable environment. We have 1,400 properties in the Birchwood area, which is 80 per cent of the total population, so we hope this initiative will really benefit our younger tenants.”
The programme is being run in partnership with Active Cheshire and the Warrington Wolves charitable foundation.
James Howes, Sport & Lifestyles Manager at the Warrington Wolves Charitable Foundation said: “The Warrington Wolves Charitable Foundation is proud and excited to be involved in such an innovative project designed to initiate and sustain positive lifestyle choices. The importance of physical activity and the associated health benefits is well documented but the inclusion of sessions which will equip youngsters with the knowledge and practical skills required to design and prepare healthy and nutritious meals on a budget is a key life skill that cannot be underestimated.”
The YClub 12-week programme runs until 12 May 2015 and is not exclusively for Your Housing Group tenants. Anyone interested in attending should contact James Coates on 07795 471359 or email [email protected]. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
