Shoppers to put their stamp on art work

AN international artist who has designed graffiti-style murals for high profile events such as the Glastonbury Festival and the Singapore Kite Festival has invited young Warrington shoppers to put their stamp on one of his latest pieces of work.
The flags and symbols of different world cultures will be brought to life in an exciting project that people are being invited to take part in at Warrington’s Golden Square shopping centre.
Children and their families will get the chance to help paint a giant cube-shaped mural, as part of the shopping centre’s half term craft activities called Discover and Do which starts today and continues until Friday, from 11 am to 4 pm each day.
There will also be a colouring competition to win a family ticket to see the Disney on Ice Magical Ice Festival at the Liverpool Echo Arena, plus a limited number of golden tickets handed out during the activities for the winners to claim a special goody bag from a toy shop.
Artist Scott Walker (pictured), who has previously created similar interactive artworks for the Glastonbury music festival and BBC Radio 1, has made a unique canvas for shoppers to paint on.
It features the outlines of flags from around the world, and symbols representing different countries, from totem poles to the Eiffel Tower.
Anyone who takes part will be provided with special acrylic paint pens that allow them to colour in Scott’s outlines, and add their own drawings on top.
The result is expected to be a dramatic and colourful mural, showcasing the cultures of the world as seen by Golden Square shoppers.
“It’s not just about colouring in it’s about getting people to express something about the world we live in,” said Scott.
“That’s why I’ve left a lot of blank space in between the flags, hopefully people will get inspired and add their own drawings.
GoldenSquare director Ian Cox said: “We are always looking for distinctly different activities to put on during school holidays to help make a trip to Golden Square fun and engaging for families.
“We feel quite honoured to be hosting a piece of art work from such a high-profile artist and the fact our shoppers will be able to help make it their own will be really great.
Other activities through the week themed around different world cultures include: Tuesday: Chief Headdress; Wednesday:Didgeridoo making; Thursday: Chinese lanterns; Friday: London Beefeaters.
