£7m boost for primary schools

PRIMARY schools in Warrington will receive £7 million to boost the attainment of children from less well-off homes, thanks to the Pupil Premium – the £2.5 billion fund set up by Liberal Democrat ministers to ensure that all children have the best start in life.
Schools with children from a low income background will receive £1,320 additional cash for each child in the coming year.
The money will help teachers support those children at most risk of falling behind their classmates, according to Cllr Bob Barr, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Warrington South (pictured).
Evidence shows that raising the attainment of pupils by the end of primary school has a direct impact on future exam results and future opportunities in the job market.
Cllr Barr said: “Every child should be able to reach their full potential, whatever their background. The Pupil Premium ensures extra money goes to schools in Warrington to be targeted at children who need it most. The whole class benefits when fewer children are struggling.
“In government, Liberal Democrats are building a stronger economy and a fairer society, with opportunity for everyone. We have already protected school budgets, introduced the Pupil Premium and expanded early years education for the very youngest children.
“Also providing a free healthy school meal for all younger children ensures they are fit to learn and helps all family budgets.
“This additional funding is an important boost for schools in Warrington. Liberal Democrats are determined that teachers will continue to have the resources they need to give all pupils the best possible start in life, regardless of their background.”
