Edwardian school building to be extended

PLANNERS at Warrington have given the go-ahead for the demolition of a former works building to allow extensions to a primary school.
A new nursery, reception classroom, main hall and kitchen can be built at Evelyn Street Primary School, Whitecross, members of the borough’s planning committee decided.
The committee was told the two-storey Edwardian building had suffered over the years from a lack of significant financial investment and maintenance. But the classrooms were of a good size with high levels of natural daylight which were suitable for refurbishment rather than demolition.
However the adjoining works building – which had more recently been used by the school – could be demolished to make way for extensions.
This would enable the popular school to accommodate 105 pupils, bringing the total to 315.
The proposed extensions and alterations would provide a modern, well-designed establishment that would improve educational provision in the area.
