A WARRINGTON Collegiate lecturer has reached more than a million hits on YouTube with his Counselling Resource channel.
Rory Lees-Oakes initially set up the channel for his students to access learning 24/7 to supplement the classroom discussions, but it’s now widely read all over the world and embedded in other college’s websites.
The Senior Lecturer in Counselling is now seeing hits from the USA, Australia, New Zealand, India and Japan to name a few.
Rory said: “It’s gone global! In the teaching and counseling sector it’s now the biggest YouTube video in terms of the most hits and content. Originally I created it to allow my students access to learning 24 hours a day as many aren’t working a 9-5 day and need to study during the late evening and night. I’ve even had emails from lecturers at other colleges who have embedded the video in their website.”
Rory is adamant that the computer will never replace the teacher, particularly in this subject counseling. This is endorsed enthusiastically by his students who are delighted with the digital extension to their classroom studies. Like many adult learners they are juggling a job and family commitments alongside their studies.
Counselling student, Gary Byrne said: “The teacher is central to your learning, but as a student who likes to read around the subject I have found the Counselling Resource Channel online absolutely ideal. It allows me access to the learning and content in the comfort of my own home or on the go at times convenient for me and supplements our classroom discussions. It’s made a real difference to my professional development and confidence from an academic point of view.”
