Newest school to get more classrooms

SIX additional classrooms are to be built at Warrington’s newest primary school – less than two years after it opened.
Planning chiefs have approved proposals for the extra classrooms at Chapelford Village Primary, which will accommodate 180 more pupils, bringing the total number up to 630.
In addition, members of the planning committee approved additional toilets, plant room, reprographics and extensions to the existing school library and staff facilities.
Although the development will reduce playing field provision at the Santa Rosa Boulevard school, replacement play space will be provided on a separate site at Barrowhall Primary School.
When the school opened in February last year, the 45-year-old Sycamore Lane Primary School at Great Sankey closed and the staff and pupils were transferred.
An extra eight full-time and four part-time staff will now be required at the expanded school.
The proposals originally triggered an objection from Sport England on the grounds the development would result in a reduction in playing field provision. But they withdrew their objection following talks with the borough council.
Planning officers recommended the proposals be approved. They said no harm would be caused to the character and appearance of the area.
The extension to the school will be 54m from the nearest house and it is not expected there will be any additional noise above that associated with the existing school.
