Staying safe at Christmas

A BOROUGH council team has joined forces with the police to stage a special event to advise Warrington residents on how to stay safe and secure this Christmas
The event will take place at St Thomas’ Church, London Road, Stockton Heath on Wednesday December 10, from 12pm to 3pm and residents will be able to pick up tips and freebies about staying safe and how to avoid becoming a victim of crime during the festive season.
Free window and shed locks, purse bells and fact sheets on how to avoid scams will also be available at the event – provided on a first come, first served basis.
The council’s lead member for leisure, community and culture, Cllr Kate Hannon (pictured) said: “This is the fourth in a series of events to be held across south Warrington which aim to encourage residents to take some simple steps to reduce their risk of becoming a victim of crime especially during the Christmas period.
“By providing simple information and advice, south Warrington will be a much safer and stronger community.”
Sergeant Ian Robinson of South Warrington Neighbourhood policing team said: “We are keen to reassure all residents that the police are here to prevent crimes as well as solve them.
“We are delighted to form this partnership with the council’s neighbourhood team and particularly reach out to older and more isolated members of the community where there is a greater fear of crime.”
