Time is running out for voting rights

TIME is nearly up for the 10 per cent of Warrington residents who were not automatically transferred to a new, more secure system of voter registration back in August.
A letter about changes to the voting system was sent to all residents in August – and the majority were informed they need take no action as they had already been transferred to the new system, known as Individual Electoral Registration.
But about 10 per cent were told they needed to re-register, either by filling in a form that came with the letter, or by going online.
Some have still not done so.
Deadline for re-registering is December 6.
A council spokesperson said: “It’s free, quick and easy to register online on the Register to Vote website.
“There is still time to sign up – please don’t miss your opportunity to have your say.”
Under the old system, the head of the household could register everyone who lived at the address.
But now each member of the household must register individually.
When signing up, residents will need to provide their name, address and nationality, their national insurance number and their date of birth.
Anyone who requires further guidance can call the Warrington Elections Helpline on 01925 442184 or email [email protected]
Anyone who fails to register will not be able to vote in local or national elections.
