A 24-year-old Warrington actress has landed a lead role in the pantomime “Aladdin” this Christmas – playing alongside TV star Mark Labbett.
Leah Murphy, from Penketh, a former performing arts student at Warrington Collegiate, will play The Slave of the Ring in the panto at Rotherham civic Theatre from December 3 to January 11.
Liverpool-born Leah has lived in Penketh for 10 years.
She studied performing arts and specialist make-up at the Collegiate for three years.
“Aladdin” will be the 10th pantomime she has appeared in.
Her first lead role was as Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz” at the Theatre Royal, St Helens in 2009.
She said: “I can still remember the excitement I felt when I got a phone call telling me I was successful at the audition and had the part of Dorothy.”
In 2012 she played Snow White at Doncaster.
This year she will be playing with Mark Labbett – better known as “The Beast” in the ITV game show “The Chase.”
“I have always been a fan of ‘The Chase’ so I am extremely excited to work with Mark, who will be playing the evil Abanazar.”
Playing the title role will be Ricky K who made it to the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent this year.
Leah said: “I have been performing since I was 12-years-old and I have had some fantastic opportunities over the years but I am really looking forward to ‘Aladdin’ which will be a really fun family panto.”
