Tips to stay safe and secure

THE Council’s south neighbourhood team have joined up with Cheshire Police for an event to give residents advice about staying safe and secure in Warrington.
On Wednesday 24th September, from 12.00PM – 3.00PM, residents are invited to St John’s United Reform Church, Wilderspool Causeway, to pick up tips and freebies about staying safe, avoiding becoming a victim of crime and discovering what activities are available locally.
This event is the third in a series that has been organised following the success of a similar scheme held in Grappenhall and Thelwall, and Lymm.
The South Cheshire neighbourhood police team and Council’s neighbourhood team will be giving away free window and shed locks, purse bells and fact sheets on how to avoid scams to eligible residents. Giveaways will be provided on a first come- first serve basis, so be early to avoid disappointment.
Cllr Kate Hannon, (pictured) executive board member for Leisure, community and culture, said: ‘This is the third in a series of events to be held across South Warrington which aim to encourage residents to take some simple steps to reduce their risk of becoming a victim of crime. By providing simple information and advice, prompting resident Home Watch schemes and offering free safety equipment and security tips, South Warrington will be a safer and stronger community.’
Sergeant Rebecca Stokes of South Warrington Neighbourhood policing team said: ’We are keen to reassure all residents that the Police are here to prevent crimes as well as solve them, and we are delighted to form this partnership with Warrington Borough Council’s Neighbourhood Tam to reach particularly our older and more isolated members of the community where ‘Fear of Crime’ levels are high.’
Also there on the day will be Trading Standards, Home Watch, Cheshire Fire Service, Healthy Ageing Team, Wellbeing Team, Disability Partnership, Warrington Voluntary Action and many more.
