Grappenhall CC undone by individual brilliance

GRAPPENHALL’S visit to lowly Nantwich resulted in a heavy defeat, very much due to one brilliant performance by one of the home players.
Nantwich won the toss and batted on a wicket which was not condusive to free stoke play and lost wickets regularly. At 112 for 5 it looked as though they could well be dismissed for a modest total, as all of Grappenhall`s seamers performed well.
However, the individual brilliance of Nantwich`s Liam Livingstone took their total to a formidable 214 all out, his own contribution been a quite superb run a ball 135.
For Grappenhall Ian Barnes had his best spell of the season with 5 for 68 off 17 overs, and Sam Guest earlier in the innings took 2 for 16 off 10 overs, but ran into difficulty for transgressing into the danger zone on the wicket and was withdrawn from the attack.
Grappenhall`s reply could at best perhaps only be described as patchy, as only three batsmen got into double figures, Adam Roylance with 16, Albert Pennington 14 and Josh McClelland 12, as Nantwich steadily worked their way through the batting order.
Their all out total of 73 in the 32nd over was Grappenhall`s lowest total of the season, and they took just four points from the match.
With one game left in the season at home to Urmston, Grappenhall need to play with pride, but at least they know that their position in the Premier League is now safe for another year.
