A SERIES of walks are to take place at Arley Hall, near Warrington on Sunday, September 28 – to help build-up knowledge about mushrooms.
There are more than 40 varieties of mushroom at Arley and the walks offer an opportunity to learn about he diverse array of multi-coloured growths in the autumn.
Fungi are the fruiting bodies of underground organisms that are neither plant nor animal. These mystical creations are structured in a way similar to plants yet feed in the way of animals, by drawing sustenance from living or dead matter.
These two major factors contribute to fungi being classified in a kingdom of their own.
A spokesperson for Arley Hall said: “These walks are not intended as a food foray and species may not be taken for culinary use. Edibility will not be discussed, concentration will be on identification and building
up a knowledge of the fungal world.”
The walks will take place at 11am, 1pm, 2pm and 4pm.
Booking is essential and waterproof clothing and sensible footwear should be worn as the walks are in grass and woodland areas. The walks start in the stable yard.
