Pub seeks open air drinking area – for coffee

A WARRINGTON town centre pub is seeking planning consent for an open air drinking area – for coffee.
Star Pubs and Bars has applied for the facility – which will provide seating for 28 customers – on part of the existing pedestrianised area to the side of the White Hart, fronting onto Hilden Square.
It does not involve the pavement area fronting Sankey Street where a similar plan, involving seating for 80 customers was refused some seven years ago.
The plan is for the external drinking area to be open from 9am until midnight.
Earlier this year, the pub put in proposals for an open drinking area fronting Sankey Street but withdrew the proposals after planners warned it would arise to highway safety issues.
The proposed new drinking area will have secure, canvas barrier.
Planning officers are recommending the scheme be approved. They say the proposed use will add to the viability and vitality of the town centre and will not cause any adverse highway safety conditions.
But they suggest a note be placed on the decision to the effect that any licensing agreement would have to be the subject of a separate application.
