School security to be stepped up

PROPOSALS to extend and refurbish a Warrington Primary School which suffers from problems of trespass and vandalism should improve security, planning chiefs have been told.
The plan at Dallam Primary School, in Boulting Avenue, have been put to the borough’s planning committee.
A small extension is proposed for the reception class area, a reconfigured entrance, reception and administration facility is also planned and improved vehicle and pedestrian segregation will result in health and safety improvements for children, staff and visitors to the school and the adjacent children’s centre.
The school is currently vulnerable to unauthorised out-of-hours access which has led to acts of vandalism and damage a new, 2.4m anti-climb fence will improve security.
The fence will not be visually prominent at the rear of the school, but at the front it will be mounted on an existing 600mm wall and will form a prominent boundary feature about 3m high.
However, the security benefits justify this as there will not be any harm to nearby residential property, planners believe.
