A 12 month pilot project has been launched by Warrington Borough Council to provide personalised support to those with complex alcohol issues.
Warrington Borough Council commissions CRI Pathways to Recovery to provide alcohol services in the borough and it has funded CRI to create a small dedicated “complex needs team”.
The team will identify and target individuals with alcohol issues who are known to the council’s adult social care or local mental health services and who frequently attend A&E.
These individuals will then be given targeted support from a wide range of partners through personalised recovery plans to help them overcome their alcohol use and access any other wider support they may need – for example housing support or psychological therapy.
Cllr Pat Wright (pictured), the council’s lead member for health, wellbeing and adult services, said: “It is great to be piloting a project such as this, which will see those most in need being given personalised support. When people are suffering with one issue, whether it is medical, alcohol or mental health, traditional approaches used by an expert service can be effective. But, when people have a combination of these issues, they can
unfortunately end up in critical situations.
“This project is targeted to give individuals with complex issues the help and support they need. Services will work together much more closely to prevent a situation from becoming critical and this should reduce the pressure on local services.”
