A GROUP of young music students raised £1,200 to help ensure needy families at Warrington have enough food.
The concert, organised by flautist Meera Maharaj, 18, from Grappenhall and a group of her friends was at St Wilfrid’s Church, Grappenhall and was in aid of the Warrington Foodbank.
In addition to the money raised, 250kg of food donations were also contributed by members of the audience, including a large quantity of items the foodbank was desperately short of.
Meera, who is studying at the Royal Northern College of Music, said: “It was a thrill to perform for a such a large and appreciative crowd.
“I am delighted that we have been able to raise a lot more than I ever dreamed would be possible. I am hoping that we can put together another similar project in the future, because the demands on the Foodbank are increasing all the time.
“As musicians, we love what we do, and concerts are such fun. It has been inspiring to be able use my skills and those of my friends to provide practical help for people who are in difficulties.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported us and contributed to the success of the event.”
