How to stay safe and secure

LYMM residents are to be offered free advice on how to stay safe and secure at an event to take place on Monday, June 30.
Police and the borough council’s south neighbourhood team are joining forces for the event at Lymm Youth and Community Centre between 12 noon and 3pm
Residents will be able to pick up tips and freebies about staying safe, avoiding becoming a victim of crime and discovering what activities are available locally.
The event has been organised following the success of a similar event held in Grappenhall and Thelwall, where more than 100 people turned up.
The Warrington South neighbourhood police team and council’s neighbourhood team will be giving out window and shed locks, purse bells and fact sheets on avoiding scams. Locks and bells will be free to eligible residents but there will be a minimal charge to others on a first-come first-served basis.
Cllr Kate Hannon, the borough council’s lead member for leisure, community and culture, said: “This is the second in a series of events to be held across South Warrington which aim to encourage residents to take some simple steps to reduce their risk of becoming a victim of crime. By providing simple information and advice, promoting resident Home Watch schemes and offering free safety equipment and security tips, south Warrington will be a safer and stronger community.”
Sergeant Becky Stokes of the Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We
are keen to reassure all residents that the police are here to prevent crimes as well as solve them, and we are delighted to form this partnership with Warrington Borough Council’s neighbourhood team to reach particularly our older and more isolated members of the community where ‘Fear of Crime’ levels are high.”
Also at the event will be Trading Standards, Home Watch, Cheshire Fire Service, Healthy Ageing Team, Wellbeing Team, Disability Partnership, Warrington Voluntary Action, and many more.
