Care home abuse unacceptable

WARRINGTON Borough Council is committed to supporting provision of good quality services and high standards at care homes in the borough – and regards abuse or neglect of residents as “unacceptable.”
This assurance has been given in the wake of the BBC Panorama documentary about an investigation into a care home in Essex.
The council was not involved in the programme but has reassured residents that the council, together with its health partners and the Care Quality Commission, have a rolling programme of visits to inspect and monitor the quality of care provided in the borough.
All agencies work together to ensure that providers comply with regulatory standards, and clear protocols are in place to enable the authorities to share information and respond to any concerns and incidents immediately, the council says.
Eleni Ioannides, director of families and wellbeing at the Town Hall said: “Whilst we can’t be everywhere all the time, Warrington Borough Council is committed to supporting the provision of good quality services and high standards across the town for people who are cared for and supported.
“Residents should be reassured that incidents of abuse are rare. But they are also unacceptable, which is why we demand high levels of care in Warrington and we have robust processes in place to help us deal with any allegations or incidents as soon as they come to light.
“We work very closely with the Care Quality Commission and care home providers to ensure that high standards are maintained. If improvements are identified we work with care homes to monitor progress and ensure that they are carried out and maintained.
“We also strive to make sure that residents are at the heart of what we do and that they are supported and cared for in the best way.”
The council said that if anyone does have any concerns regarding the care that they or another person receive in Warrington they should phone the council’s access to social care team on 01925 444239.
