A LONE silver birch tree in the garden of a Warrington house can be felled, councillors have decided – after a long-running planning saga.
Members of the borough council’s planning committee decided he tree, in the garden of a house in Druridge Drive, Penketh, was in a poor condition and would probably die soon anyway.
The committee has met twice to consider the tree’s fate.
They originally decided the tree could be felled because it was causing damage to a nearby garage.
But then officer slapped a new tree preservation order (TPO) on it after additional information became available.
But the owner objected to the order – and the council’s own tree advisor recommended the tree be removed.
As a result, the committee agreed the TPO could be removed – allowing the tree to be removed.
