“GET a foot on the ladder and earn while you learn” – that’s the message from Warrington Borough Council ahead of National Apprenticeship Week’
The council’s careers for young people service is supporting the week, Monday 3-Friday March 7 and is encouraging young people aged 16-24 to get in touch if they want help finding the right apprenticeship opportunity.
Staff at the careers centre in Time Square, next to Warrington Market, will be there throughout the week to discuss opportunities and
help young people apply there and then.
Rachael McGrath is the participation assistant from the 11-19 learning and achievement division at the council and would recommend an apprenticeship to any young person.
She said: “I’ve been an apprentice at Warrington Borough Council for the last nine months. I feel that I have been challenged with lots of interesting tasks. I have enjoyed being in a real place of work and getting paid while I learn.
“I have made many friends, my confidence has grown and I am now equipped with the skills and knowledge to develop my career and I am looking forward to my future.”
Cllr Colin Froggatt (pictured), the council’s lead member for children and young people’s services, said: “The careers for young people service offers everything from professional support to advice sessions with employers so if you and your friends aren’t currently in a job, education or training, and need some help with choosing which path to go down, head to the careers centre.”
There is lots of information about the careers centre and how it can help job seekers on the council’s website or on www.careersforyoungpeople.co.uk or by contacting the careers team 01925 424900.
