WARRINGTON Market has been presented with an award by the National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA).
The team is celebrating winning the best love your local market event award for its campaign last May during ‘love your local market fortnight’.
The president of NABMA, Cllr Kevan Wainwright, presented the award to market manager Steve Pickering, deputy leader of the council, Cllr Mike Hannon, and market traders.
Love your local market is a nationwide campaign celebrating local markets. A series of successful events were staged in Warrington as part of the fortnight, including outdoor markets, a food festival, a vintage craft fair, history tours, a teenage market, and a flash mob. There was also the chance for entrepreneurs to test their business on a free stall.
Steve Pickering, market services manager, said: “The main aim of the campaign was to create a buzz around Warrington market and encourage start-up businesses to consider joining us. The outdoor markets and food festival worked brilliantly and really showcased our traders and local produce. We’re delighted with this award and already have plenty in the pipeline for 2014 so come and visit us!”
Cllr Mike Hannon, deputy leader of the council, said: “Congratulations to the team at Warrington Market. This national, high profile award is a true reflection of the hard work and commitment shown by staff and traders, and this is what makes our market such a success. The market still holds a very special place in the hearts of our residents and we look forward to this continued success when the market moves into its new home on Bridge Street as part of the town centre redevelopment.”
Steve Park, managing director, Warrington& Co., Warrington’s partnership for driving economic growth, said: “This is great news. Warrington Market is a vital element in our vibrant town centre and the new market hall which will be built as part of the £52 million Bridge Street regeneration scheme will cement its future. Work on this exciting project will start on site later this year.”
