VOLUNTEERING group, Team v, will be highlighting the warning signs of abuse as many couples celebrate their relationships this Valentine’s Day.
The team, which is part of a national network of young volunteers run by youth charity vInspired, will be holding a pop up event at Bank Quay House Cafe to encourage local people to challenge their understanding of what constitutes a healthy relationship. It is thought that 75% of girls and nearly 50% of boys have experienced some form of emotional or physical abuse from partners, but that 81% of those have never sought help.
Hollie Wimpenny, Team v leader for Warrington, said: “Abuse is an issue that affects people of all ages, but many young people don’t recognise what is happening to them.
“And even fewer know they can find help. We hope these activities will open some people’s eyes and inspire them to seek help. Or just help people to think differently about future relationships.”
Team v will be running their event on Saturday February 15. Members of the public will be invited to participate in a sliding scale activity, which will consist of nine scenarios.
People will be asked to indicate their opinion on them by marking where they stand on a scale of 1:5: 1 being unacceptable and 5 being acceptable.
There will also be chance for people to create their own love tags, stating what they think love is, which they can then give to that special someone, whether it be a friend, family member or partner.
