Housing Trust create 20 jobs

TWENTY new trainee jobs have been created by Warrington-based social landlord Golden Gates Housing Trust.
They will start work in the coming months gaining valuable work experience and training with the Trust and its partners, including Warrington Public Health and Cheshire Fire Service.
The new trainees will be the third full year group to join GGHT after the Trust’s board made a three year commitment to help tackle unemployment in 2012.
The Trust have helped over 220 of its tenants and their family members into employment in this period and remain on target to support up to 450 local residents into employment, education and volunteering by the end of next year.
GGHT are committed to giving the town’s younger residents and those who have been long-term unemployed the best possible opportunity to access all positions with the Trust.
To help achieve this they have marked the start of their latest recruitment process by working in partnership with Warrington Collegiate to deliver a four week pre-employment course. The Trust are offering guaranteed interviews for all residents who complete the course, which has been funded through Warrington Borough Council’s Life Long Learning team. The course will include sessions on interview skills, exploring expectations within the world of work, communication skills, confidence building and team working.
The course has been promoted by GGHT’s Employment Initiatives Team through its weekly job clubs across the town and on social media. They were overwhelmed by the interest from local residents and invited 75 to compete for the 30 course places through a series of assessments.
Roy Smith, chairman of the GGHT Board, said: “Given the cuts to the benefit system and the continued high levels of unemployment amongst our young people, we feel that our commitment to helping our tenants and young people get into work and training is more important than ever.
“Our trainee schemes and apprenticeships are fantastic ways for people to earn a living while they learn and develop new skills. During their time on the programme they will gain the work experience and qualifications which will be the passport to their future careers. Our Employment Team will support all individuals to progress with their job goals and aspirations.”
GGHT offers a range of free training opportunities for its tenants and their family members. Anyone who lives in one of the Trust’s properties and would like additional support getting into employment, training or volunteering can register with GGHT’s Positive Change initiative by visiting www.gght.org.uk/positivechange, calling 0800 25 26 27 and asking to speak to the Employment Team.
