A MAJOR consultation has been launched at Warrington ahead of the borough’s first flood risk management strategy.
The borough council want to hear the views of residents, businesses and other local stakeholders before adopting the proposals.
A draft strategy can be seen online at www.warrington.gov.uk/floodrisk and people can have their save over an eight week period, ending on March 31.
There is an online questionnaire or respondents can email or post their views.
Cllr Linda Dirir (pictured), the council’s lead member for highways, transportation and climate change, said: “The borough council is now responsible for managing local sources of flood risk. That includes flood risk from groundwater, surface water runoff and ordinary watercourses, such as ditches.
“We’ve already produced a draft local flood risk management strategy that outlines the responsibilities of the council and other risk management authorities, such as the Environment Agency and United Utilities.
“The draft strategy is available on the council website and your comments will help us to develop the strategy further.”
Cllr Dirir added: “This is Warrington’s first flood risk management strategy and it’s really important to make sure we get it right. So please do look at the draft strategy and please give us your views.”
