MP claims residents being let down by council services

WARRINGTON North MP Helen Jones says people living in the Fairfield and Howley area are being let down by council services.
Speaking after a visit to the area for one of her mobile surgeries, the MP (pictured right) raised concerns for residents living in Cobden Street and Sharp Street.
She said: “Last time I was in this area, I received a number of complaints about litter, fly-tipping and dog fouling.
“I’m sorry to say that, when I went back last week, the situation had not improved. There was a lot of litter in some areas and clear evidence of dog fouling and fly tipping.
“People here deserve better. I spoke to several residents who clearly make a great effort to keep the area around their homes clean and tidy but feel let down.
“I am calling on the council to make a real effort to clean up this part of my constituency, to catch the fly tippers and to have a cleaning schedule that meets people’s needs. Council officers would not put up with this around their homes, so it is not good enough for people in Fairfield either.”
But ward councillor Cllr Tony Higgins (pictured left) said: “Dog fouling and litter problems are big concerns to many people and with the cuts forced upon this council by the government, services have become stretched .
“The ‘love where you live’ campaign, which as been a huge success in other parts of town could also be used here to highlight the irresponsible behaviour of a minority of residents who blight the lives of so many of our local residents.
“With the brand new community centre planned for the St Peter’s Park area that I’m working on, I will be looking forward to engaging with local residents on these issues and working to improve the area.“
