Free health checks and micro-chipping for four legged friends

DOG owners in Warrington were able to take advantage of free health checks, microchips, neutering and care advice for their pets at a special event in Bewsey organised by Holden Gates Housing and their partners.
The event, held at Bewsey Community Park Centre, was organised by Golden Gates Housing Trust (GGHT) in partnership with Warrington Borough Councils Dog Warden Service, the PDSA and the Dogs Trust.
In what was a busy day for everyone involved, 67 dogs were micro chipped, 24 owners took away free neutering vouchers and 42 dogs received a health check by the PDSA.
The event also saw staff from GGHT and the WBC Stronger Together team handing out free dog poo bags and information to help tackle the issue of dog fouling in the local area.
By law all dogs will need to be chipped by April 2016. The event was designed to help raise awareness of the change in the law and to help improve the welfare of their pets.
GGHT Chair Roy Smith, said: “We recognise the issues that can be caused by stray dogs and the dangers caused to children and other residents from dog fouling. It was fantastic to see so many responsible dog owners take advantage of this opportunity to receive information and advice that will help to reduce some of these issues.”
