Affordable homes get the go-ahead

PLANS for 21 “affordable” homes on the site of a former nursing home at Warrington have been given the go-ahead by the borough council’s planning committee.
The two-storey houses will be built on the site of the former Houghton Hall in Greenwood Crescent, Orford.
Houghton Hall was demolished some time ago and the site is considered suitable for rented affordable housing due to the proximity of a small parade of shops.
A mix of semi-detached properties and small terraces is planned. Provision will be made for gardens, sheds, bin stores and the site will be landscaped.
There are a number of large poplar trees on the site but the council’s arboricultural officer says they have little individual merit and not of sufficient quality to merit protection. They are not ideally located for retention and more suitable trees in more suitable locations will be planted in their place.
